The Thomas Cole House in Brandywine is important because it was the home of Thomas Cole. One of the most famous American painters of the nineteenth century. Cole lived in this house from 1811 until his death in 1848, and it was here that he created some of his most famous paintings, including “The Course of Empire” and “The Voyage of Life.”
